He may no longer be bringing the San Francisco Giants to victory, but these days Hunter Pence is still firmly a team player – inspiring all around him to up their game and take action for the planet.
Hunter Pence is a former Major League baseball star with career highlights including two World Series Championships and four All-Star appearances.
His inspirational speeches to rally his teammates earned him the nickname ‘The Reverend’ and now he uses those same skills to rally his local community to join him in regreening. It’s part of the Healthy Planet Project he founded after retiring from baseball in 2020.
The aim of his foundation is to fight for a cleaner, healthier environment. From raising awareness for local environmental initiatives, to organizing events such as family tree-planting days, Pence is intent on covering all the bases. “It’s about incremental improvements, it’s the same with baseball,” he says.
“We’re the caretakers of the Earth. I think as the caretakers we have the responsibility to take care of it so that it takes care of us.”
