Reading the headlines these days you’d be forgiven for thinking there’s little cause for climate optimism. And yet, it’s more vital than ever. Why? Because it’s key to kickstarting action, Anne Therese Gennari, aka The Climate Optimist, explains.
Some people confuse climate optimism with denialism or wishful thinking, Anne Therese Gennari says. But she’s keen to emphasize that it’s anything but.
For her, it’s about shifting the narrative on the challenges we’re facing “so that we can act with courage, curiosity and excitement, instead of getting stuck in anxiety and fear,” she says.
“The action part is essential because to be and remain a climate optimist, you must participate in the changes you wish to see,” she adds.
She experienced this first-hand, describing herself initially as an “angry activist” but then realized that this wasn’t sustainable for her. And so she went in search of a different way to make a difference. One that allows people to channel their purpose through a lens of possibility.
She wrote The Climate Optimist Handbook to share her message and has spent the last decade helping people contribute to the climate-just future she believes awaits us.
