In the first of our new Reimagining Fashion video series, Arizona Muse shares her journey from model to activist, inviting us all to rethink our relationship with fashion. And guess what? Conscious choices are not only stylish, they’re fun, she reveals.
You don’t have to choose between being stylish and sustainable. You can be both, Arizona Muse proves in Reimagining Fashion, a new video series diving into fashion and its impact on the planet.
A quick look at the facts reveals that fashion needs an urgent revamp. On average, Americans buy 68 items of clothing and 7.5 pairs of shoes per year. In the last 15 years the number of times a garment is worn has declined by 36%, with the average US consumer now throwing away 81.5 lbs of clothes annually.
“Fashion is one of the biggest polluting sectors, after oil and gas, and I’m not happy about that,” says Muse. So she decided to do something about it. She founded her own charity, Dirt, to start from the ground up, supporting regenerative agriculture as a more sustainable way to produce the fabric that makes our clothes. Because what many people don’t realize is that fashion is also an agricultural product, she’s keen to emphasize.
So how does that translate into our choices as individuals? What does that look like in our wardrobes? And what are her top tips? Watch the video to find out.
