Are you an enthusiastic writer and editor with a deep interest in sustainability and climate issues? We are seeking a talented and passionate part-time writer and editor based in the United States who can create and write stories in the cross section between sustainability, climate and culture/lifestyle. 

You will be responsible for ideating and creating compelling story ideas with a US focus for a global audience. Stories related to sustainability and climate topics especially within lifestyle and popular culture, as well as providing editing support to a growing network of freelancers. 

If you have a strong background in writing, an interest and understanding of sustainability and climate issues, and excellent editorial skills, then you are the perfect candidate.

In particular you will be working together with the US Managing Director, the Director of Storytelling and two experienced editors (based in the Netherlands and Denmark).

We have offices in the US (Los Gatos-Bay area), The Netherlands (Amsterdam) and Denmark (Copenhagen).

About the role

This is a part-time position, approx. two days a week (working remotely is possible), at first for a period of 4-6 months.

Responsibilities

Ideate and Create Story Ideas

• Generate innovative and engaging story ideas centred around sustainability and climate topics with a US outlook.
• Conduct thorough research to ensure accuracy and credibility of content.
• Collaborate with the editorial team to align story ideas with organisational objectives.

Writing and Content Creation

• Write high-quality articles and other content pieces on sustainability and climate-related subjects.
• Develop clear and concise narratives that effectively communicate complex ideas to a broad audience.
• Adhere to deadlines and ensure timely delivery of assigned projects.

Editing and Proofreading

• Edit and proofread content produced by a network of freelancers to ensure adherence to style guidelines, grammatical accuracy, and overall quality.
• Provide constructive feedback and guidance to freelancers to improve their writing skills and maintain consistency in tone and style.

Subject Matter Expertise

• Stay updated with the latest developments in sustainability, climate science, renewable energy, environmental policies, and related fields.
• Develop a deep understanding of the target audience and tailor content to meet their needs and interests.

Collaborative Teamwork

• Work closely with the editorial team to align content strategy and contribute to brainstorming sessions.
• Coordinate with freelancers, providing clear instructions, and managing their assignments effectively.
• Actively participate in team meetings, sharing ideas, and contributing to the overall success of the content team.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a writer and editor, preferably with a focus on sustainability and climate topics.
• Excellent writing skills with a keen eye for detail and a strong command of grammar and style.
• Demonstrated ability to generate creative ideas and transform them into compelling stories.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with the team and freelancers.
• A genuine passion for sustainability, climate action, and environmental issues.
